M.O.D Al Sharayan Project

24 Fibre-984km-Back Bone

For reasons of confidentiality, FOSS cannot disclose too much information on the Al Sharyian Project.

This project was one of the largest, if not the largest fibre installation carried out by FOSS for the M.O.D, within the UAE. The entire fibre network comprised 984km of cable. FOSS provided the project management and technical expertise to install; splice and OTDR test the complete installation.
This involved over 350 external splice joints and 20 fibre nodes.

M.O.D Requirements:

The M.O.D has very exacting requirements and this project was delivered against critical project milestones. All FOSS personnel were required to be security cleared as part of the project initialisation activities. FOSS was successful with this project due to its reputation for the delivery of high quality services in very arduous external conditions.

The M.O.D has a very extensive optical fibre network throughout the UAE, which is still rapidly growing. It utilises leading edge transmission technologies that allow the M.O.D to exploit the high bandwidth and long distance transmission capabilities of a single mode optical fibre infrastructure.

FOSS Solution:

For the Al Shariyan Project, Lucent Technologies sub contracted all installation, splicing and testing to FOSS, which also involved 984km fibre install, in, and around Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

Result:

This Al Sharayan Project was completed, including commissioning 2-months ahead of the completion date. Subsequently FOSS received a letter of recommendation for the successful completion of this project.
